DK 46: Mills Design Launches with a Win

The first DK 46, built by DK Yachts, was launched in late October for a UK owner. A Racer/Cruiser from Mills Design, her initial sailing trials conducted by sales agents BSI tested the designs performance in Northern European conditions: "sailing off Hamble in 22-27 knots, cold at 8 degrees C, small A-sail kite downwind and full main with number with no. 4 jib upwind. Felt as stiff as a church and trucked around really well sailing just 7 up."

In her first race she performed equally well in medium conditions to beat 2 Swan 45's, a Europrix (Corel) 45, and a Ker 11.3 among others to win the HWS Charity Pursuit Race. The annual race staggers the start times according to IRC handicap, and saw the DK 46 overtake both Swans on the first leg after starting over a minute later, eventually to finish over 5 minutes ahead.
